Oct 7, 2013: Started this shawl for the Knit 1 Geek 2 Podcast Hobbitalong: The Desolation of Swatch while on the bus home from Toronto. The goal is to get it done in time to wear it to the midnight release of the second Hobbit movie on Dec. 13th.

Oct 19: This shawl has been flying along…so much so that it’s super obvious that I’m not going to be using near enough of the gorgeous yarn, and won’t get the full colour evolution. :( Ripped out the shawl entirely. Don’t panic! I did three of the four charts in about 10 days and I have lots of time left.

Oct. 23: Thanks to lost of episodes of Doctor Who on the Saturday night and the Marvel movie marathon I did on Sunday, I’m back at about where I left off--starting the last chart. Just waiting for some longer cables for my Chiaogoo Interchangeable needles before I work on it more as 576 stitches on a 20-something inch needle is a bit difficult to handle. I’ve pulled out a couple 10-15g balls of yarn from the ball I’m knitting from as well, so I’ll get more of the second ball in the evolution in the shawl.

Oct. 28th: New cables arrived, and the shawl is nicely spread out again. Worked a couple rows tonight during more Doctor Who. :D At this point, I only have to do one row a day to finish on time, which is easily doable.

Dec. 1st: Finished the charts, and even added a couple rows based on the pattern from the last charted row, to try and use up more of the grey. Now I just have to do the crochet-chain cast off and block this monster. :D
