Notes

This was knit with a knitting belt.

My brother-in-law requested a hat in the colours of his favourite soccer team, the Wuppertaler SV.

I´ve chosen Lana Grossa Bingo for the project because it can be washed in the washing machine and I will probably get the same colour again if I run out of yarn.

Gauge from pattern: 8 sts / 12 rounds for 5 cm in stockinette

Gauge pre-washing:
Stockinette 5,5 mm needles: 8,5 sts / 12 rounds for 5 cm
Ribbing 4,5 mm needles: 14 sts / 13 rounds for 5 cm
Ribbing slightly stretched: 9 sts / 5 cm
For a head circumference of 56 cm = 100 sts

Gauge post-washing:
Stockinette 5,5 mm needles: 8,5 sts / 12 rounds for 5 cm
Ribbing 4,5 mm needles: 11,5 sts / 13 rounds for 5 cm
Ribbing slightly stretched: 8 sts / 5 cm
For a head circumference of 56 cm: 90 sts
Or rather: 88 sts because for the 2x2 ribbing it has to be dividable by 4!

For the very first stripe, it would have been better to knit five rows, because then the seaming would have been truly invisible.
Now after seaming it looks as though the first stripe only consists of three rows.

Like in another project, I have knit as many stripes as were comfortable fitting around my head, not as many as the pattern said.

Again, Lori’s Twisty Bindoff for the brim of this one, as in the Dude sweater’s collar. It is stretchy without a flare - has become one of my favourite bindoffs.

Today I sewed in all of the ends.
The hat is very squishy. I like that. It sits well on the head. Also, I like this bindoff, it is elastic yet sturdy.

What I find not quite optimal is that you pick stitches up on a vertical edge for the brim. That creates a slight ridge. Which is not very much bothering, but still, it is not optimal, because this ridge sits on the top of the forehead.

What’s left now is washing & blocking, plus making and attaching a pom pom.

24.10.2020

The pom-pom almost would have fallen apart during making it, but I managed to save it. It’s nice and big blush

I am very happy with the size of the hat. It is neither too large nor too tight around the head. It feels just right. heart_eyes
