These were knit with a knitting belt.
These are going to be my first “traditional”, plain vanilla socks. Since my son loves to wear knitted socks for warmth, I decided I need to start making socks as well (haven’t felt drawn to knit socks at all until now, to be honest). He chose the yarn himself when we were in a yarn store.
Gauge 3,5 mm needles 5 cm
Pre-wash: 12,5 sts x 17 rounds
Post-wash: 13 sts x 17 rounds
Due to the Lana Grossa sock pattern for this yarn, I cast on 48 sts for size 36 for the swatch. It may be that I have to go down 4 sts for size 35.

Nathan’s recipe resulted in reducing the stitch count for these socks to 36 to have some negative ease, and from what I saw when my son dressed the swatch on his foot, this seems to be correct. That’s 2 inches less, I wouldn’t have expected that! At first reading, I thought 2 inches would be way too much.
The cast on is genius!!!, even though it took me several attempts to come past its first two rounds.
Due to the German Short Rows, there are no problems with holes on the heel turn.

I don’t know. After I got past difficulties due to my sloppy reading, I managed the heel. It looks good. Still, the sock looks 2,5 cm / 10 rounds too short (compared to the cardboard foot model).

Hmmmm… I think next time I will add two more rounds before starting the gusset. I think the sock could be just a liiiiiitle tiny bit longer.
Now that I think about it, maybe I could even do two more gusset rounds (one increase round, one knit round).

I finished these (including weaving in ends) during the weekly Sockmatician Zoom Be-Along and was able to show them to Nathan. (It was even an anniversary yesterday evening, the 40th Zoom meeting!)
I am hooked now - sock knitting is highly addictive! They go fast, and they have a lot of stockinette in the round where I can knit without looking, which makes them ideal for TV knitting, Zoom meetings and such! More coming soon!
Scotty’s numbers:
36 sts
3,5 mm needles
After toes, 38 rounds until start of gusset
7 gusset rounds instead of 6, didn´t start earlier (maybe follow Nathan’s suggestion for a higher instep and add even more increases, maybe 4 more increase sts)
After heel, 37 rounds for leg
10 rounds ribbing
2,75 mm needles for the ribbing
Bind-off with 3,5 mm needles again

After the first wash cycle in the washing machine, they became a little smaller, so that my son doesn´t like to wear them anymore because they are so hard to pull over the heel.
So I guess a little less negative ease would be good for the next sock.
