March 26th: Started last night as a part of the BAG Join Along in the SAARC group here. Its a crochet project after a LONG break. The bag is easy.. Already done with one side of the bag..
May 11th: FINITO! and, I am in LOVE with the bag. Didn’t expect it to turn out just like I wanted it to. Lining was tricky because of the unusual shape and the features I wanted in the lining.
I’ve added 2 zippered pockets on the inside and used 3 magnetic snaps for closure. I like my bags to have zippered closures but, the shape of the bag makes it impossible to put in a zipper. So, the zippered inner pockets were even more imperative.
No hand-stitching was involved in the lining part. I made the lining a tad bigger than the bag to optimally use the stretchiness of the bag.
Modifications:
I reduced the length of the strap as I didn’t like the look of long strap on this bag. The pattern asks to chain 220 and I chained about 180 for the strap. I think the reduced strap length gives it the hobo-bag-look which is what I wanted to achieve.
I am so thrilled with the bag that I am taking it to work today. :D The 6th photos was taken inside out to give you an idea of the lining and the inner pocket. It does look like a confused alien’s face, doesn’t it?! ;-)
And, if you are wondering why this bag is called the Lobster Hobo bag..the reason is the color-way of this yarn is called Live Lobster and this bag is its namesake. :-) The yarn was a RAK from Jaya aka ermabom. It has a rustic feel and its rough to touch. Best yarn for bags and not for next to skin wearables.
May 12th: My friends-at-work loved the bag. One guy even said that he thought it was a store-bought one. Since they don’t know much about my hobbies and my crafty side, they were pleasantly surprised.
VERDICT: Bag for all seasons!!
