Previously I’ve knit my FASCs in Gaia Worsted on needles size 5.0 mm but I went up one size to 5.5 mm on this one to test the difference in the knitted fabric and the size of the finished shawl. After finishing this shawl my conclusion is that needle size 5.5 mm is much better, so I’ll stick to this for future FASC’s :-) (yes, there will definately be more - I love this pattern/yarn combo!).
Some of the pics are a bit dark - the close ups are most true to colour.
Measurements:
Forgot to measure before washing and blocking, but
measurements after blocking, relaxed, are: Width/wingspan approx. 242 cm (95.3 inches).
Length approx. 124 cm (48.8 inches).
Modifications:
Replaced center YO’s with M1R/M1L - except for in
the YO-rows.
I’ve also added rows in both body and ruffle section.
Body: I’ve numbered the stitch patterns of the main body of the shawl from 1 to 35. I’ve knit stitch patterns 1 to 35 once and then stitch patterns 2 to 17, after this I switched to trim skein and began the ruffle/edge.
Note to self: Changed to 2nd cw skein on 3rd row in stitch pattern 29, and changed to 3rd cw skein on 1st row in stitch pattern 8.
Ruffle: I prefer the edge not to be too “ruffly”, so instead of “K2, YO” I did “K2TOG, YO” in the first eyelet row of the ruffle section, and continued knitting 12 rows of stockinette and 7 rows of seed stitch (starting on a WS row) to avoid curling of the edge. Continued knitting the three edge stitches in each row in the ruffle section - same as in body - also to avoid curling.
Bind off:
Did an ordinary bind off on needles size 8.0 mm.
Yarn amounts used:
Body of shawl: 359 grams.
Ruffle: 88 grams.
Finished shawl weighs 447 grams.
This is my 6th FASC in yarn from Mosaic Moon.
