I tried Nell’s limpet out with worsted weight yarn (yellow) before using my lace/fingering/sock yarns. I have done crabstitch and picots before, but was having trouble with them here. I would trap the picot under the crab when I changed direction.
Tried other variations:
1- working BLO wedges was ng
2- working sc instead of crab and dropping picot, much better
3- working combo of sc, ss on opposite sides and shorter rows with the sc (5 vs 6 st) was best
4- contrasting crab on top of sc or ss was ok, but I didn’t enjoy it
I added a chain around the knit spiral for emphasis.
I used sheruknitting method for sc limpets only worked into a magic ring. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfK6n0LtS38&sns=em

Added 3 new pics. While I waited for the next dfad post I made 2 crochet spiral shells from an old ckal of Loren’s. post 73 I also did some barnacles and seaweed.
The next 2 identical motifs have limpet stitches done back loop and forward loop.
Nell’s link teaches the forward loop but I found out the back loop is the traditional way. More on that in a separate project…
Third is a group shot of everything.
