#11 Shawl, 2014
12/31: I’ve knitted 4 of Kris Basta’s patterns for Christmas/Birthday 2013 gifts. All were great hits and when I saw this pattern come up in October I knew I knitted was going to knit this for me.
I dug in my yarn stash and I found this 100% Baby Camel skein that I purchased at their store in NYC in 2012. Its sold as 3 strands together to make a light worsted weight and I was told once washed it gets really soft.
Overall, Kris’ patterns are easy-to-knit and have great results. They look more complicated than really are.
My Modifications
After the set-up, I knitted the 8 row lace repeat 9 times (sts=217, instead of 199 sts) before continuing with Kris’ pattern instructions. The reason why I did this was because I wanted to use up as much as the Baby Camel as I could.
I used Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-off as the bind-off with a US11 needle.
My Results
The School Products salesperson was correct. After wet blocking, this yarn is really soft and slightly fluffy to the touch.
I forgot to measure before I wet blocked.
Blocked: 83 in wide x 17 inch height
Would I knit this again?
YES, most definitely! Kris did not disappoint me.
If you are an advance Beginner, I would say it would take you about a week of night time TV watching to knit this pattern. It took me longer because I’ve been too busy and only had an hour here and there to knit.
Also, this shawl/scarf would make a nice gift knit too. But I’m keeping this one since I purchased this yarn in NYC and its soft and warm to the touch.
