3rd Shawl, 2014
4/7: Was lucky to be able to watch the Game of Thrones watchathon over the past week and had a chance to do
some power knitting for long periods of time while watching over the weekend. I now know why people are obsessed with this series.
This pattern was very easy to knit, except for the misnumbering of Point 5, Row 61 (really should be 59 -- follow RitaMiller’s numbering), while following the complex Dungeons and Dragons novella with all that dialogue, plotting, and gross violent killing scenes (after awhile I had to turn my head because the graphic scenes were too intense for me!).
My Results & Feedback
I was able to knit all 13 points. Took the chance to knit the last point because I read others have done so. It was nerve racking knitting Rows 263-284. After BO, I had approximately 10 yards of yarn left!
Unblocked: 78 in x 13 in
Gently Blocked: 92 in x 15 in. HUGE!!
Really love how the hand-dyed blue green yarn striped diagonally following the easy-to-remember diagonal garter stitch mesh lace pattern. The shawl/scarf is very stretchy. Definitely would knit Frisson again and I highly recommend anyone with a self-striping, variegated or solid skein to knit this fun pattern. I would also add this to my Go To gift knitting pattern library.
Only issue I had with the Hanalei Strings merino bamboo fingering was that it leeched blue green dye on the palms of my hands as I knitted throughout this pattern. It washed easily off, but it was a nuisance. The yarn care tag mentions to rinse with vinegar when hand washing which I am assuming is to seal the yarn color? I just think that the yarn wasn’t completely rinsed off during the dyeing process.
If I didn’t have this problem, I would easily have given this yarn 5 stars because I love, love the vibrant shades of blues and greens which reminds very much of the mystical Hanalei area and how nice to the touch this yarn is as I was knitting.
Will be bringing this shawl/scarf with me for the plane ride to the Big Island next month.

3/30: I purchased this hand-dyed merino bamboo fingering at the store (At the front on the left hand side was a small corner of yarn, rest of the store had mostly guitars & ukuleles) the day before I got married last September in Kauai. Saw this pattern last month when Brittany was so kind to offer her pattern for free for a very short time here on Ravelry and thought the combination of this pattern and this yarn would be a harmonious auspicious match.
Thank you RitaMiller for posting your counts row by row.
