This is just completely random yarn leftovers. I’m using 2 random yarns each row.
I put all my random yarn for this project in a bag and reach in to blindly pick out 2 yarns. After using them in a row, I put them into a different bag. After I use each yarn once from the first bag, I will mix up the full bag and start pulling from the second bag. This way I reuse all the yarns in different combinations.

I’m using fingering and sport weights so the gauge should run a little smaller. I’m doing the 48” size and I can just knit the collar wider if I need to fill in the front opening.

OMG!!!!!
I am 7 inches into the body and discovered that I have been doing the rows completely wrong. For some reason, I never saw “row 2” in the directions for the edge stitches so I have done every row using “row 1” directions so I don’t have a separate set of thread tails 3 stitches in on the rows.
I have to rip out the entire thing.
I don’t want to have to throw away all the threads I’ve used so far. After ripping out, I will have to try to sort by thread lengths in order to reuse them in the same order since they will be very different lengths as the increases made the rows longer as I went along.

Reusing the threads didn’t work because they were frequently too small for the row that I tried to stitch. I am setting them aside and will use them when knitting the sleeves so that they are not wasted.

Starting the sleeves. This is definitely running small due to the smaller yarn so I am not going to do any decreases in the sleeves. They are already narrower than I’d like my finished cuff size to be.

I’m using the magic knot on the sleeve rows but I’m not thrilled about having 2 knots on every row going down my sleeve back so anytime I rest my arm on a surface it will be laying on hundreds of hard little knots.
I’m pretty sure I will make this pattern again in the future, playing with the colors in different arrangements. For the next time I will use a russian splice instead of knots in the sleeves.
I also really like the way the colors play together in my random assortment so I am planning to do this same 1x1 random design in a vest for me next. Possibly using the Hilja pattern, or else another basic v-neck that is sized for fingering/sock weight. The colors blend together much better in real life than they appear in the photos.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I just had about 8 knots suddenly untie in the middle of the sleeve. I have no idea why since they were all very tight when I knitted them. I’m getting big runs of unraveling. I’ve tied these in tight square knots on the inside to hold them in place, but now I’m sure more will come undone over time since this has only been 24 hours since I knitted this. I also found 4 more ends that came undone further back on the sleeve. I’m sure many more will undo after the first time it is washed.

Just finished both sleeves and tying the “steeks”. This is pretty small. The sleeves are just barely big enough for my arms. There is about a 10 inch gap in the front between the steek rolls that I will need to fill in with the shawl collar.
If I made this again, I’d have to go up even larger. I used a size that was 6” larger than my normal size, so I would probably need to go up yet another couple sizes due to the smaller yarn and tighter gauge -- possibly all the way up to the size 56.

I am disappointed at how puckered the front is after adding the shawl collar. I followed the directions about how many stitches to pick up, but it looks like I really should have picked up a lot more stitches to spread the ribbing out more along the front edge. I will try blocking the heck out of it in hopes it will straighten out the front.
