This is such a pretty hat that’s easy to knit. It would make a wonderful gift if you can part with it.

Success after five swatches!

The Malabrigo Worsted and Rios spread and flattened out after washing and blocking so they won’t work for me. I got gauge with Phentex Merit, which ended up working out as the pattern shows up better.

All the swatches are 28 sts (24 centre sts in pattern plus two sts ktbl on each edge) wide x 16 rounds long, except for the last one which is 29 rounds long. I used metal needles for all the swatches. The pattern gauge is 28 sts x 29 rounds. Because I used 24 pattern sts my swatch should be 3-1/2” wide and 16 rounds is 2-1/4” long.

I made two swatches with Malabrigo Worsted. Using 5mm needles it was 3-3/4” wide x 2-1/4” long. After washing and blocking it was 4-1/4” wide x 2-1/4” long. Using 3.75mm needles it was 3-1/8” wide x 2-1/8” long. After washing and blocking it was 4-1/8” wide x 2” long.

The swatch using Malabrigo Rios was made with 4.5mm needles. It was 3” wide x 2-1/2” long. After washing and blocking it was 4-1/4” wide x 2-1/4” long.

I made two swatches using Phentex Merit. Using 4mm needles it was 3-18” wide x 2-1/4” long before and after washing and blocking. Using 5mm needles it was 3-1/2” wide x 4” long before and after washing and blocking.

The ball of Phentex weighed 50g. The part ball weighed 22.5g.

I ran out of the first ball of yarn halfway through round 49. I’m done knitting the hat. It’s 8-1/2” wide (18” circumference) x 8” long. It used 51.5g - 113.3m (123.6y).
