Tim wanted a nature themed blanket in a tan colour so I’m going to use Caron One Pound in Taupe for the body of the blanket and Caron One Pound in Lace, which weighed 468.8g, for the border. I’m using this pattern as the basis for the blanket plus used other charts for the nature theme.
The body of the blanket used 227.5g (373.1m/407.2y).
The border used 132g (216.5m/236.3y).
Before blocking it’s about 56cm (22”) wide x 68.5cm (27”) long. Including the border measurements at the widest and tallest it’s about 66cm (26”) wide x 76cm (30”) long
I blocked the body of the pattern to 55cm (21-1/2”) wide X 65cm (26”) long. Including the border measurements at the widest and tallest it’s 71cm (28”) wide X 79cm (31”) long..
I used 7 leaves for the top and bottom and 9 leaves for the long sides - total 32 leaves. I used a provisional cast on and grafted them together instead of seaming them.
When I first did a rep of the leaf border to see how it turned out, the first thing I noticed was that the written instructions didn’t match the chart, and the chart was wrong.
I decided to keep the 4 stitches in garter stitch and use the border pattern #247 from the Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible by Hitomi Shida. This pattern neatened up the purl background, neatened up the leaf stem, and made the outside leaf edge look much better.
The different patterns and their charts that were used are -
Bedtime Story Afghan - used the rabbit, dog and duck charts.
Butterfly Love Baby Blanket - used the heart chart.
Animal Parade Baby Blanket - used the dog and butterfly charts.
Couverture de Bienvenue/Welcome Blanket - used the bear chart.
Thundercloud - used the Stormy Skies cloud chart.
ABC Baby Blanket - used the star chart.
Love You to the Moon and Back - used the moon and stars chart.
Professor McGonagall - used the shooting star and other stars charts.
