Dec. 26: Hooray got new buttons! (pic. #3)
Oct 31 Knitting took a week, but it languished for 2 more while I searched for perfect buttons (still not sure if I keep the green ones) and waiting for the weather, but mainly some free time. Fall is a busy season for me as I’ve planted hundreds of plants in my garden. Therefore, getting it ready for winter is a major chore. I literally have a mini-botanical garden :) What was I thinking designing it?
I did I-cord edging all around the ribbing and the sleeves - 562 stitches in all! My row gauge was a bit off.
Was aiming for positive ease and it’s certainly there.
Later that day -
It dawned on me why I have so much positive ease. I’m such a klutz!!! All that tulip bulb planting must have fogged my mind :) I sewed the buttons at the same distance from the edge as the buttonholes. You know, the traditional way :). Veera’s patterns are anything, but traditional. And I mean it in a very positive way! Her patterns bring smile to my face. They are so fresh and innovative!
Anyway, after taking the pictures and realizing my mistake, I redid the buttons and like the way it fits now much better (seen on the first 3 pictures).
My mods:
- I-cord edging throughout (highly recommend); it gives the piece such a polished look;
- added a couple of stitches under arms (not in the pattern);
- knit the sleeves flat and before the body;
- made the button holes slightly bigger;
- made the whole cardigan slightly longer;
- made decreases for the waist every 6th row instead of every 4th.
Don’t believe your eyes in the last picture - it’s actually grey. The camera’s batteries died, and this is the only picture I was able to take.
Finally have some pics to prove it :)
