I totally changed the gauge to use this yarn. Size 6 needle, but used directions for the baby size (cast on 24). It fits my 8 year old fine. I would a size 5 needle tho if I did it again. The fur edge is also about 15 rows, not 30 that are called for because the fur will not roll. I also tacked the fur edge up as it is too heavy to stay up on its own.

I would also add more rows to the body of the hat, it is a tad short for Alice, but it keeps the fur out of her face. She loves it.
