It took me several tries to obtain gauge, finally ending up with a size 10-1/2 needle, almost three sizes below the pattern recommended size.
I should have sewed the strap further down into the bag; I sewed it at the depth of the decorative edge, but I advise a deeper depth for greater stability. Otherwise, I am very happy with this bag.
I have added a fold-over strap to the top of the bag with a button to add stability to the bag; it was sagging and this has solved the problem. I may change out the button to something more modern looking.
