These are simple, classic watch-style caps done up in fair isle style for a pretty plaid impact. These hats are produced in super-bulky yarn that creates a soft and warm cap that draws attention with its festive colors.

This can be a good use for stash yarn. I drew from my stash of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick ‘N Quick, Rowan Big Wool (the pink of Glamour is like no other!) and Cascade Magnum.

In the manner of Kristin Nicholas, I focused only on adding horizontal stripes into the knitting, and then worked the vertical colors in via embroidered duplicate stitches (stitches over the top of the knit stitch, imitating a knit stitch). The finished product doesn’t blend like intarsia, but I rather like the chunky texture of the duplicate stitching.
