I wasn’t sure where to enter my project… In the end I decided the Missoni style colours won it!
I absolutely got in love with these colour combinations
For this project I adapted a totally different zig-zag pattern which in fact my blanket is yet again different to the original zig-zag pattern I incorporated…
This is what I did:
A blanket of 168 sts in Garter Ridges with I-cord edges and I-cord bind off as follows:
3 sts I-cord edge; 6 sts as additional edge, 5 times the chevron pattern @ 30 sts each; 6 sts edge; 3 sts I-cord =>
Pattern
- C/on long tail 168 stitches.
Row 1 (RS): K3 (I-cord); k6; 5 x {Kfb, K12, SSK, K2Tog, K12, Kfb}; K6; K3 (I-cord) = 168 sts.
Row 2 (WS): Sl3wyif; K all sts to last 3; Sl3wyif = 168 sts.
- Bound off with I-cord of 3 sts. Then went back to cast-on edge, picked up 169 sts on WS of work and added a 3 sts I-cord edge there too.

Finished with 3 sts I-cord bind off; then went back to c/on edge and added a 3 sts I-cord there too …
Final size, after blocking: cca 75cm/98cm.
A note on the I-cord b/off when dealing with zig-zags
Used this How to work the I-cord finishing at 90º corners video and adapted the technique to my points and valleys in the chevron edge:
Points = substituted the 1 stitch of the corner for 2 sts in my case (in the photo the stitches b/n the red and yellow yarn markers); so I did:
-K2 and placed them back on left needle
-1st stitch of the corner: K, K SSK (1st stitch to b/off)
-2nd stitch of the corner: K, K, SSK (2nd stitch to b/off)
-K2 and placed them back on left needle
-then continued with normal I-cord b/off = k, k, ssk…
Valleys = the stitches that in the pattern were as ssk and K2tog I decreased/bound off them 2 at the same time, twice (in the photo marked with the white yarn markers):
-The I-cord row made was: K, K, Slip S S, K3Tog = 2 stitches bound off at the same time.
-Made this row 2 times once for the “ssk’s“ and once for the “k2tog’s” stitches of the ‘Row 1’ pattern.
For the cast on edge I picked up 169 sts using a 4.0 mm needle on WS of work then turned and changed back to 4.5 mm needles and worked same as for the b/off edge.
I hate when I have to deal with sooo many ends and I hate blocking acrylic yarn!
