An easy pattern that, similarly to other Ravelers, I changed it to work it seamlessly. Hence the rewriting :)
I also hope my notes will help other adventurers :)
I used 6.0 mm needles throughout and worked the whole sweater in garter stitch. See gauge above. I started knitting bottom-up, in the round, up to armholes, then switched to rows and completed first the back, then the front, then used 3-needle b/off for shoulders. After that picked up stitches for hood along neck opening and the live sts from top back, closing it also with a 3-needle b/off … and finally, picked up stitches around the armholes for sleeves and worked them in the round. Also made the split in front more like a v-neck with 4 sts overlap with no neck shaping and added 2 draw strings … phew …
So:
Back + Front Cast on 80 sts and joined to work in the round.
Did 25 Garter Ridges (GR) including the cast on edge (cca. 21 cm).
Divided the work for front and back for arm holes: worked 40 sts for back and placed next 40 sts for front on a holder. Further put 1 st each end on holder for back = 38 sts (I did the same for front = 38 sts when I got there.)
Further started working in rows:
Back = 38 sts, Front = 38 sts …
First completed the back:
Kept working the back for another 16 GR and left the 38 stitches on a holder, all up 25 GR + 16 GR ~ 33 cm, considering 12 sts left shoulder, 14 sts neck opening and 12 sts right shoulder.
Returned to front:
Put 1 st on hold each end. Now with 38 stitches worked further 6 GR (cca 5 cm) until I divided for split: on the WS of the 6th GR (row 12 from armhole up) I worked the middle 4 stitches in the row as Kfb, in this way increasing 4 stitches. Then, on next RS row/ 7th GR, I divided the work for the v-neck split, separating and also at the same time overlapping the previous 4 Kfb sts, now as 8 sts, half for the left side and the other half for the right side: 17 sts + 4 sts for the v-neck each side, with the 4 sts for each side of v-neck overlapped.
Worked both sides at the same time for another 4GR.
After that I started decreasing each side of v-neck 1 stitch, as k2tog (and ssk) for 5 times, always on RS, up to 16 sts each side: 12 sts +4 sts v-neck for next 5 GR. Made the decreases inside the 4 sts of v-neck.
Ended up with knitting one more GR.
Front side: 25 GR + 6 GR straight + 4 GR first part of split + 5 GR for v-neck decreases + 1 GR finish for shoulder ~ 33cm.
Did 3-needle bind off.
Bound off (front and back) 12 sts each end for shoulders and kept 14 sts live for back and 4 sts each front for v-neck.
Picked up stitches for hood:
4 sts v-neck right side, 2 sts across shoulder, 1 stitch from shoulder b/off, 2 sts shoulder, 14 sts back neck, 2 sts across shoulder, 1 stitch from b/off, 2 sts shoulder, 4 sts v-neck left side = 32 sts. Next row increased 2 sts each end = 34 sts.
Next, to reach the desired 42 cm width of the top of hood I needed to increase up to 56 sts. I did this on each RS of a GR, sometimes at each end always after or before the 4 sts I carried from v-neck, other times in the middle of a row.
After I finished with increasing, I worked up to 26 GR and finished the hood with 3-needle b/off.
Hood height ~ 22 cm, width ~ 42 cm.
Sleeves worked in the round and aiming to have a length of 22 cm (note: the body has a dropped shoulder) and width of 13-14 cm flat at the top.
To get 22 cm length for sleeves I had to have about 27 GR (see gauge above). Armhole opening is cca. 14 cm.
Picked up 38 sts (2 sts armpit from holder, 16 sts across each GR row, 1 st at b/off shoulder, 16 stitches back GR, 2 sts from holder, 1 st underarm). Also I considered to finish with 26 sts.
Worked for 7 GR (including the pick up round), then started the sleeve decreases every 2.5 cm = 3 GR, from 38 to 26 sts. I had to decrease 2 sts as k2tog each end every 3 GR, 6 times, i.e. on 8th GR, on 11th, on 14th, etc.
B/off after the 27th GR.
Added 2 draw strings of ~ 20-21 cm…
It measures roughly:
length ~ 33 cm // width ~ 31 cm // sleeves ~ 22 cm //
hood ~ 23 cm height x 21 cm depth // v-neck ~ 8 cm high.
