Notes

Here are two more hats (the 2nd was made using “Helix” knitting technique) I made using this pattern:

First hat:
Cast on 76 +1 sts, with navy and 4.5 mm needles (which I used throughout). First I added 1 stitch then decreased it for the invisible joining in the round.

Knitted 3 rounds in navy, instead of 2 (this yarn was slightly thinner than the light blue one and also b/c I used 4.5 mm instead of 5.0 mm needles as per pattern).

On 4th round I changed to light blue as well as added the markers in preparation for the next round of short rows, for the ear flaps.

On 5th round I started the short rows and made them as per pattern. I ended up with 9 GR’s for each ear flap (as I had 20 sts b/n ear flap markers, in accordance with my 76 sts circumference).
(BTW…I like Suzanne’s w&t video, 2nd w&t technique:
slip the stitch, wrap it by bringing the yarn forward, slip it back, then turn; next row simply knit the wrapped stitch: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6dCsca0DSkE )

After ear flaps, I continued with light blue for 9 more GR’s (18 rounds) before adding again navy.

Next round I changed to: Purl one round with navy and Knit one round with light blue, all together for another 5 GR (10 rounds). Note: probably should do more rounds in the future, either here or in the section before, as it looks a bit small in height.

After that I made one more round (purl in navy) to set up for the decreases, and on the next (knit in light blue) round I decreased as per pattern.

For the tassel, I used less than 1 m from each colour and after cinching last 4 sts and holding my index & middle fingers together I wrapped both yarns around them cca 12 times (6 times each colour) and cut the yarns. Further I followed the pattern instructions for the tassel.

Yarn weights used (approximately):
Navy = 42 g (start) - 23 g (left) = 19 g used
Light blue = 63 g (start) - 36 g (left) = 27 g used

Yarn in meters used:
Navy around = 30 m
Light blue around = 56 m
As follows (approximately):
-Navy: c/on rnd + 3 rnds ~ used cca 7 m
-Light blue: ear flaps + 18 rounds ~ used cca 35 m
-Alternating navy & light blue colour rounds:
Navy: used cca 22 m
Light blue: used cca 20 m
-Tassel: less than 1 m for each colour.

Height ~ 18 cm (20 cm stretched)
Width (pressed flat) ~ 21 cm
Tassel ~ 3 cm
Weight ~ 45 g

2nd hat was made using the ‘Helix’ knitting method.
The differences b/n the hats are:
-the jogless helix technique and
- I added two more rounds before starting the decreases, i.e. 6 GR (12 rounds) instead of 5, as for the other hat.

Note about Jogless Garter Ridges in the round, as in Helix knitting: IT CAN BE DONE zany_face
Found how to in this interesting helical stripe method link mentioned in BandytKnits’ Rikke Helix Hat project
… and in two other helical knitting tutorials:
