Started with long tail cast on 76+1 sts (for invisible joining in the round) with 4.5 mm needles (that I used throughout) and purple yarn.
After joining, I knitted 3 more rounds, then I changed to pink and knitted the set-up round for ear flaps.
Made the ear flaps as per purl soho’s old instructions.
Continued in garter for 9 1/2 garter ridges.
Changed to 1 round purple (purl), 1 round pink (knit) on a purl round! (the striping looked better this way).
Made 5 more GR (stripes, as above), then on next purl round added the markers for the decreases.
Made the decreases as per pattern.
I wanted to finish the hat with an I-cord. Therefore, when I reached 12 stitches in decreasing section, on next round I did k2tog all around = 6 sts
Changed to two 4.0mm DPN’s and worked the icord in purple only. On its first round I decreased one more stitch to have / continue with a 5 stitch I-cord for about 8-8.5 cm.
Measurements and size:
It weighs about 50 grams, the width (flat) is about 21 cm (not stretched) and height of cca 15cm.
It fits well a 6-12 month old baby.
This is my 5th ear flap hat … My previous ones:
