Beanie
For the ribbed band I used a 3.5mm hook and made a foundation hdc that fit snugly around my head, then worked a few rounds of hdc alternating front post and back post stitches.

For the body of the beanie I switched to 4.5mm hook and worked in Alpine Stitch. (Found a tutorial on Google. Tutorials also on YouTube).
Made the beanie as long as I wanted it then worked a couple of decrease rounds (tutorials available for that too…), finished off then added a faux fur pompom.

Scarf
I used 4.5mm hook.
Again I started with a foundation hdc as long as I wanted my scarf to be, joined to form a circle…then worked in Alpine Stitch until I was happy with it, finished off with a hdc round.
