Notes

Named after the Cartmel Priory is this a-line long jacket with an architectural cable adorning the collar and the sleeve cuff. Stockinette stitch covers the body of the jacket to offset the cables. The jacket is closed with a shawl pin.

Shortening ideas:
You can make it shorter without ruining the lines:
If you want to make it a lot shorter I would make less decreases (deducting sets of 4 sts: 2 from the back and 1 from each front). It is made with a 20 cm/7.75” difference between bottom width and bust and that can be reduced to 7 cm/2.75” without ruining the a-line, just making it narrower.
However if you decrease to less than that it will be closer to a straight long cardigan.

Collar width and adjustments:
The collar folds over. The lower hem circumference includes the placket (13 cm/5”). E.g. XS: 20 cm x 2 Fronts = 40 cm + 13 cm = 53 cm Back = 106 cm circumference. The placket (cable part) is 14 cm/5.5” (I have used 13 cm when calculating the circumference because of the fold) and the interfacing/edge in rib is 12 cm. I initially planned to make them equal but realised they do not have be equal. You could probably still reduce it with down to e.g. 8 or 10 cm/3.25 or 4” if you wanted to, after you have knitted a small bit you can easily fold it over and check for its width and look. So the circumference is based on wearing the cardigan closed with the placket folded over each other. If you plan to wear it with the placket hanging loose you could reduce the fronts width with 13 cm.

The sizes become very generous when you wear the cardigan open and I would choose a smaller size for myself just based on that.
