Notes

These mittens were for a commissioned project.

The wearer’s hands are larger and long-fingered. Modifications include

  • Two strands light worsted-weight held double throughout project

  • Sized up needles --cuffs were knit with size US 9, hands and thumbs were knit with US 8

  • Shortened to fingerless mitt length, so fingers are free for use. (Worked only 4 repeats of main mitten pattern)

  • Cuff length increased to 5 inches

  • Lined with 200-gram weight Polar Fleece.

Notes: all in all, these mittens turned out fairly well. I had gauge issues when I began knitting the second mitten, (RH mitten). Apparently I had tightened up my knitting tension. When I blocked them, the 2nd mitt shrunk a bit in length. So I had to reblock and give the 2nd mitt a good tug and stretch.

They turned out a bit oversized and roomy. If I had to re-knit them, I would have sized down to size 7 (original size called for in pattern), and just used the yarn doubled. The twisted stitch pattern was too large and holey, thus I had to add the lining to take up some room.

But for my friend, they were a perfect fit. He wanted to wear them while playing piano, and there’s enough wiggle room for that.

Project done.
