All finished! Can’t wait to wear this summer. Really fun knit, would make again.

One side is finished. I took the advice from others’ notes and instead of casting off along the side seam, I placed the live stitches on two holders and then did a 3 needle bind off on the WS. Looks good!

Weaving in the ends as I go is definitely the move!
I realized now as I do the back section why the pattern has it first, because then when you do the front you can make the front “straps” however long to meet the length of the back, whereas with the back there’s a very specific row count for the back of the neck shaping… but it’s fine, I’ll be able to figure it out easily with a little mathing and measuring.

I messed up the first bottom section and made it 69 ridges, when it really should’ve been 71 including the cast on and bind off edges — so when I picked up 71 along the side for the front, I just added an additional stitch on either side.
Took the good advice from others’ notes to knit the front section first. I want it to be pretty cropped, but also I wanted the neckline to be not quite so deep, so I ended up knitting 6.5” from the bottom edge to the split for the shoulders, knit the shoulders as written, and then did about 2.5” more on each side to the shoulder seam. Did a bunch of wacky measurement comparisons to both a cropped T-shirt and a v-neck tank I own to get it just right but… I am realizing I’m kinda bad at pattern alternations, ha.
I’m a little worried that I’m under gauge as the pattern says the center panel should be 13” wide and mine is more like 12”, but I’ve knit so many things lately that were to gauge until I blocked and then they got huge, so trying to keep the blocking faith
I only have one skein of each yarn currently, and only used about half to do the front, so ordered 3 more of each which is probably more than enough.
I can’t get over how fast this is going, gotta hand to ol’ garter stitch.

Got gauge on the first shot, yeehaw. I probably wouldn’t even wash/block this, except to know what I’m in for the first time I wash it after wearing, but the cotton knit up in garter is so… I don’t know the word… liquid and drapey in a way that makes me think it won’t really need shaping.
I thought it might be slow going with the small yarn weight / needles but the garter has me cruising, already finished the first bottom panel.
Psyched about this color combo, I wasn’t sure at first but I think it’s gonna have a really beachy 70s vibe.

oharethey was wearing her version of this shirt the first time we met, and I was in love with it. She was such an immaculate knitter and it fit her so, so well. After she passed away I decided I would cast it on next as a small memorial to her. Her project notes are great, and I like that I think about her every time I pick up the project. I hope it’ll help me keep thinking about her once I’m done and I’m wearing it, too.
