Despite what an earlier knitter says there are no mistakes in the original pattern. Yes the updated pattern makes a mistake in placing one of the buttonholes on the yoke but that is because the rewrite has misinterpreted the original instructions. The incorrect reference to 4mm needles in the rewrite is because the original pattern used 8 & 10 size needles 4mm & 3.25mm in metric and a reference to 8s has been given a straight substitution instead of putting ‘larger size needles’ as the context of the new pattern with multiple sizes demands.

The original knitter of the sample for the book comments she found it difficult to increase in pattern on the sleeves. The vintage pattern is great for this as it gives line for line instructions. I followed the vintage pattern throughout as it was much easier. I am a bit mystified as to why the needle sizes have been changed for the second size (equivalent of the original one size pattern). I knitted the smallest size because I did not have enough wool for the second size but had to do another pattern repeat on the sleeves for length. Relying on negative ease to wear it!
