…I really like this design. The decrease on the sleeves gives it a bit of a fitted look and the garter stitch & YO raglan adds some a nice detail.
Thank you! bbtricotin for sharing this simple and beautiful pattern! (I actually might have found a new favourite baby cardi.)
…………………………..
I don’t speak much french, but this is how i understood the pattern…
and even though this isn’t an exact translation, maybe it’s helpful for those who speak as little French as I do : )
Abbreviation
Gst = Garter stitch (knit on RS & WS)
Sst = Stocking stitch (k on RS, p on WS)
YO = yarn over
k2tog = knit 2 together
ssk = slip slip knit
RS = right side
- based on newborn version - Cast on 62sts and knit 4rows in garter stitch
Note - Raglan & Buttonholes!
While knitting the raglan, add 3 buttonholes (k2, YO, k2tog, k1) at the end of row 1, 9 and 17.
Knit the raglan and increase by adding a YO on each side of the 2 garter sts on every other row:
row: 5 Gst, 6 Sst, YO, 2Gst , YO, 8 Sst, YO, 2Gst, YO, 16 Sst, YO, 2Gst, YO, 8 Sst, YO, 2Gst, YO, 6 Sst, 5 Gst.
Repeat increase every RS row, total 15 times (total 182sts).
Continue body & sleeves separately
Divide sts in sets: 27 l 40 l 48 l 40 l 27
Place both sets of 40sts (for sleeves) on some waste yarn and continue with the body over 102sts. (27+48+27)
Body
row 1 (RS): k all
row 2 (WS): k5, p until 5sts left, k5
repeat row 1 and 2 another 15 times (32rows in total.)
repeat row 1 another 5 times.
Bind off on wrong side of work.
Sleeves
(knit in the round on a set of needles)
Place 40sts back on needle, place stitch marker, close to round and knit one row.
row 1: k1, k2tog, k to last 3sts, ssk, k1
row 2-6: knit all
repeat row 1-6 another two times.
Knit row 1 once more. (32sts remain)
For the cuff.
Knit 1 row, Purl 1 row - twice (4rows)
Bind off. (Repeat for other sleeve.)

Notes to myself
Distracted by figuring out the translation, I overlooked that my gauge didn’t match the pattern.
So the final size is closer to 6-9 month.
(29.10.14 - just saw little Jolanda, who’s now 10month old. The cardi still fits, just the sleeves are getting a bit short. Her mum says that’s actually not a bad thing at all. : )…)
Yarn & Yardage
Stretches massively when wet, but shrinks back while drying.
Knit on 4mm looked extremely loose while blocking. Perfectly fine for final knit. (no need for 3.5mm ndls)
No yarn left. - knit the body until running out of yarn.
