I thought it was so interesting how the white cotton yarn I used to tie the skein took the dye so differently.

The article said to just do one ounce at a time. So for my second batch I added 2 cups of water to the original bath and repeated the process.

This one I did last year from a different type of black lichen. I think it will be a good contrast for the mitts and fit into the lichen theme.

This was such an exciting project. I found this beautiful lichen up at Dagger Falls in July. Spun some Targhee and did a 3 ply. Was so amazed that I actually got gauge with the suggest needle size. I had some pink left from some lichen I collected two years ago in Leslie Gulch, OR. The lichen was much smaller, maybe Umbilicaria hyperboria. I had spun this yarn much finer and did a 2 ply, so I needed to use two strands to get the gauge. When I got my new Ply magazine I just knew this would be the perfect project!
