This is a delightful, well-written pattern. I didn’t make any modifications really, but here are some choices I made:
--I used a cast on rag for the provisional cast on; although upon reflection, I think if using that method I should have knit an extra plain row at the start because the cast on rag method seems to eliminate the first row of knitting. It worked out fine, but something to think about for next time.
--I used Japanese short rows for the short rows.
--For increases, I’ve decided on backwards loop cast on stitches as I used for the one I did earlier for Nelle -- when I tried lifted increases and M1s, I was getting too much interference with tension on previous rows. This works great. On this one I tried doing the backwards loop increase instead of yarn over in the first round and I don’t think it worked as well as when I just did the YO in the prior sweater.
--When making the button holes, I wrapped the yarn around my needle twice for the YO over the k2tog.
--When I finished the body of the sweater, I didn’t break the yarn of the MCC so that I could just continue up the front with the button bands and not need to add the bulk of weaving in the ends there. Likewise, I did the same after finishing the ribbing at the neckline.
--I seem to always be making sleeves too long for my granddaughters, so made these a bit shorter. I hope I don’t regret it! Unlike knitting for adults who have finished growing, that is the challenge when making a sweater a little one will grow into!
--I completely finished the button bands, including sewing on the buttons, before cutting the steek. This allows me to block the sweater before stepping.
--Picked up button bands, instead of sets of 4 I did sets of 4 plus 2 as I wanted to have K2 at the top and at the bottom of the band in the K2 P2 sequence. 94 stitches on each side worked well. I also did a crochet chain across the bottom of the button band to stabilize and reduce curling. I placed all the button holes on the purl section of the ribbing to get a neater look.
