This cap is a great lesson in color selection for stranded knitting. See the color photo of the balls--lovely combo! But when you look at the finished hat, you see how, in my first attempt at the hat, the value of the light blue and grey are too close so that it is difficult to distinguish between them on the finished hat. Note also the monochrome photo of the skeins: this provides a good clue that there will be a problem. This was a test knit hat as I was writing the pattern and, since I wanted the 3-color version to be more suitable for knitters new to color work, as a result of this hat, I changed the chart to eliminate the additional CC on the background of Chart D. With the revised Chart, the hat would still work and the catastrophe seen in this hat averted, but I do still believe it would have been difficult to recognize that there are two contrasting colors and not one. So the moral of this story: for your two contrasting colors, keep in mind that stark differences between CC1 and CC2 color ways will likely lead to a more inspirational outcome.
