Notes

My first Tin Roof is so wearable, perfect over long sleeved t-shirts in the Autumn, so I wanted to make a second one in warmer, earthier colours. I have a bag of Felted Tweed leftovers from my mother’s stash, so I swatched on 4mm needles to see what happened. I got a good fabric, so I calculated that making a size 3 would probably give me the desired positive ease.

Next, I had to plan how to deploy the leftovers, which ranged from whole balls to less than 10g. I decided to keep the three panelled structure of the original design, but with fine one row stripes in three colours in the central panel. I used one row stripes for the reverse stocking stitch bottom section too.

I used a lot of colours which I would never use on their own, rust, mauve and a dirty pale pink/mauve, which worked brilliantly in the striped sections. The reds and tiny amount of turquoise make these ugly colours wearable. I have worn this so much already, mostly layered over fine striped tee shirts.

I’m inspired to design another top or waistcoat using striped reversed stocking stitch as I love the tweedy effect hers.
