Yarn weighed 231 grams
Clues 1 and 2 used 34 grams (before picking up and increasing at the end)
My first Monica, modified for 400 yards of fingering yarn, clues 1 plus 2 used 20% of finished shawl.
I will finish clue 2 and do one repeat of clue 3A, weigh it again and then decide how I can maximize this shawl without running out of yarn.

Finished set up and starting chart 3a. Have 193 gr yarn left.

How to modify for thicker yarn, less yarn.
Clue 3 starts with 10n+6 stitches (6 is for edges) and n=17 in the pattern. 176 stitches.
At the end of Clue 3, chart 3B has added two stitches per repeat and added one extra stitch at the end
12x17+1+6 = 211 stitches.
Now the end of clue three has a huge increase section so there’s a distinct border on full size shawl between clue 3 charts and clue 4 chart. Do NOT do these rows. Skip clue 4.
Clue 5 starts expecting 11n+6 stitches from clue 4. Now chart for 5 immediately increases the number of stitches in each repeat. Row 85 increases three stitches per repeat, then row 87 takes one away, therefore the chart ends up being 13n+6 stitches.
Stay Tuned for details of how to manage the transition to clue 5 row 85.

One repeat of clue 3A took 20 grams. I now have 173 grams left.
I must do clue 3B, 5 and 6 which combined is 24+18+16 rows plus bind off, so round up to 60 rows.
The number of stitches per row increases, so round up to averaging 2 grams per row and that means I need 120 grams of yarn to complete project. Since I have more, I am going to do two more repeats of chart 3A.
Again, note that I am not doing big increase after clue 3. I will continue the rest of the shawl with 17 pattern repeats.

So, too late I deconstructed my first Monica (Ferry Sighting in my projects) and realized that I managed to seamlessly maintain pattern by skipping some of chart 3B. I recommend that. On this one I finished chart 3B so I had to fudge the first row of chart 5 to get the pattern to line up. Basically I needed to kfb twice per pattern repeat except the last one. If anyone cares, ask me in comments and I will write it out.

Finished in one week. Nephew’s wedding is tomorrow and the cabin I am staying in is rustic and it is very damp. So no opportunity to block this until next week. I will wear it to the wedding anyway.
