17.10.2014: found out the zipper i have is too long. Bugger!
Mods for sleeves
- Knit elbow part with smaller needles
- Knit elbow patch shorter!! I ended up with 102 rows of elbow patch, perfect for picking up the right number of sleeve stitches (Pick up 76 stitches by picking 3 stitches every 4 rows)
- Pick up stitches for lower and upper arm using smaller neees, work with same needles as the body. it looks much neater Do not bind off lower sleeve - but seam sleeve cap to body first and add/rip rows at the end of the sleeve. Maybe i shouldn’t finish the second lower sleeve part but knit directly the upper arm, block, seam and try on husband… So i’ll have the comparison between nearly finished sleeve 1 and unfinished sleeve 2 I’m not worried about the long sleeve cap. DH has big shourlders and will fill up :-)
mods for collar
- start later on neck decreases: 1.5 inches more (7 3/4 armhole)! (I don’t like low collars) (but this time it was a bit too much)
- kntting the collar double like in the monte rosa cardi
- kntting the inner part of the collar with a very soft yarn (Yak) in a similar color.
- i’ll check the lenght of the zipper once the collar is knit to the half.
- made a turning border for the collar in reverse stockinette. Beginning with a RS row and using the softer yarn for the inner collar, i knitted as follows 1st row (RS): knit 2nd row (WS): knit 3rd row (RS): purl 4th row (WS): knit 5th row (RS): knit then i went on with the same ribbing pattern like the outer collar section and knitted the same number of rows.
Front edging
-
picked up the same number of stiches per part unsing smaller needles (3 stitches every 4 rows, as usual) - 147 stitches total
-
worked 3 rows in stockinette, starting on WS - with smaller needles
-
increased 1 stitch every 3 stitches along the third row - just not at the beginning and at the end of the zipper band (there where i picked up the stitches from the bottom and collar ribbing) - total 187 stitches. The reason: the icord bind off of the zipper band cannot be shorter than the front parts of the cardi Frogged. Icord ended up too floppy.
-
made an i-cord bind off using bigger needles in order to hide better the zipper
Zipper
- bought a 30 inch zipper, in a bit lighter shade of color than the cardi itself
- lined up the two fronts PERFECTLY using stitch markers (once i didn’t watch out on a striped cardi… result: one middle stripe is not aligned by nearly 0.4 inch)
