I added thumb gussets and changed the needle size from a free pattern I got when I bought the yarn.
Basically I cast on 36 stitches on size 6 DPs. It’s a simple 2x2 rib stitch for about 5 inches. Then it’s a afterthought thumb gusset--I learned on Kelley’s Mitten lessons on Youtube--knit 6 stitches onto scrap yarn and then purl back 6 stitches-continue the rib stitch for a total 8 inches and bind off. Then I went back to the scrap yarn picked up the 12 stitches + 2 on either side and created the thumb gusset--about 7 rows. Bind off and weave all the ends
