This rainbow afghan is large enough for a queen-sized bed. It’s made of 19 x 19 crotchet granny squares (That’s 361 squares!) which are hand-sewn together using the mattress stitch or also known as the seamless join with a yarn needle.
The squares are straight-forward. Chain four stitches. Connect the chain stitches to make a circle. Double crotchet three stitches. Chain three stitches. Double crotchet three stitches. Chain three stitches. Double crotchet three stitches. Chain three stitches. Double crotchet three stitches. Connect the square. Chain two. Now you should have a square with 3 double crotchet stitches on each side. Chain two. Now double crotchet between each stitch. At the corner double crotchet twice, chain two, and double crotchet twice. Connect the square. Now, your square should have 6 double crotchet stitches on each side. Repeat the round twice more for a total of 12 double crotchet stitches on each side. Weave in the ends.
