This beauty has been asleep for long enough! Time to wake her up and show her off! This is such an exquisitely beautiful design… I don’t think I will change a single thing. I have been pretty good lately with finishing up my UFOs. I am almost done with Ruby and am working on others. Some are simple TV knittings, some are much more complicated.
This gorgeous wrap falls into the more complicated category, although after studying the extremely clever construction I concluded that it will not be nearly as complicated as I though.
As usual, I don’t need another lace shawl. I love the challenge and the very rewarding feeling of accomplishment. Sometimes I wonder what will happen with all these lace shawls I have knitted over the years. I certainly hope they will end up with someone who will appreciated the work involved. I have gifted quite a few, but have not seen a single one actually ever worn. They are most likely stuffed in the back of closets, or worse yet - had been ruined in the washing machine :-(
I am using size 8 Japanese seed beads by Toho SB0875 purchased on line from Fusion Beads. I bought 6 bags, each is 10 grams.
I started yesterday, using the Emily Ocker’s circular cast-on. It was a bit tricky… got frustrated couple of times. The yarn is very thin and my needles kept falling out. I finally just laid the whole thing on the counter-top and kind of worked rotating it, stitch by stitch. I added one more row of plain knitting before the first yarn-over row, which helped a bit.
I also switched to a short circular needle, instead of continuing with DPNs - a little easier.
Finished chart A.

Finished chart B and 2 repeats of chart C. This is much easier than I anticipated. The pattern is very well charted. Pure pleasure!

I just finished another shawl and will have more time to devote to this beauty. So far I absolutely love it. The yarn is by far the most luxurious lace weight cashmere I have ever knitted with. The pattern is spectacular.

I am done with the first half of the center piece and am on the 3rd repeat of chart c. I am a bit concerned that the shawl might come out to small… of course I didn’t bother to knit the gauge sample!

Wow! As usual, I can’t believe it has been that long! I have just finished 4 projects, 2 of which had also hibernated for a long time (longer than this one… hmmm). It is time to get this one going again.
About the beads…. not sure if I actually used the color i listed above. I also have 5473 and it looks like I might have used those. It is really difficult to tell them apart. they are pretty much the same color, one is just a bit more shiny than the other.

I have successfully transitioned to charts E.. well, with some minor mistakes, which were fixable. For some reason I had 104-105 loops along every central strip (not 111), so I just picked up what I had and then increased on the next row. I still don’t know why it happened, I just hope it wasn’t some major error, which could cause issues later.

I took a 2 weeks brake from working on this project to work on something else. I just picked it up again today and am now on chart G. As beautiful as this is, I am really eager now to finish it to move on to something else. This is typical of me - fall in love, start, get bored, put away, pickup years later, fall n love again, and so on… things eventually get finished, but it may take awhile. At least I am sort of following my new rule - can not start anything new till finish at least 2 unfinished projects. Bummer. I still have dozens of UFOs to work on - some truly forgotten, some barely started, some half done, and some almost finished.

Started chart I. Can’t believe I am almost done!

Only few rows left. I had to put it away for couple of months while working on several small gift projects. Can’t wait to cross this project off my UFOs list. The plan is to finish yet another one before rewarding myself with a new project.

Finished binding off last night! Yeah! Blocking and weaving ends will have to wait till after Christmas. I will post pics as soon as I can.

Considering gifting this shawl to Holly, as a welcome to the family gift.

Gave this shawl to Holly, who a month ago had a baby girl, our grand daughter. We secretly hope that soon we will be able call Holly our daughter-in-law.
