This is my second Dutch tulips shawl. I really love my first one - https://www.ravelry.com/projects/mariolac/dutch-tulips
The color combination strongly reminds me of irises in my garden, of which I have several types. The Dutch irises are smaller then the most common tall garden variety, but they bloom longer and with time form dense clumps. These charming purple little gems are one of my favorites!
I alternate 2 dark purples for the main color (background). At first I started with the Noti sock yarn, but decided that it didn’t provide enough contrast and i switched to the Malabrigo Whales’ Road. But after awhile I concluded that i could actually use both yarns - just change them once in awhile and keep the light purple (La Bien Aimée) throughout the whole shawl as the contrast color. I like the result very much! The light color just pops on the dark background of the Whale’s Road and the Noti dark purple seems to glow.
I actually am planning on making several more of these little shawls. Several of my friends asked for one, so they will get them for Christmas! My next one will be burgundy and red combination.

After completing 4 full repeats I still have about 60 g of the light color left. Therefore I am going to knit 1 more full repeat before transitioning to the border. I am guessing the border will not be as wide as in my first shawl, which is ok. I may have enough contrasting yarn to make 8 border repeats. We will see.
Oh, bwt… I forgot to do the “k2tog yo” in section B (more than once) and I just left it at that. Not happy about it, but who is going to know? Just me.

Finishing! ended up with 291 stitches. Only about 30” left of the light color yarn. 5 full repeats and 10 border repeats.
I will definitely make yet another one. I think these pretty little shawls are just perfect size and will make great Christmas gifts.
Binding off on he right size with the same (size 5) needles:
- Knit 2 stitches through the back loops, then slip them back to the left needle and knit them together through the back loops. Keeping the resulting stitch on the right needle knit the next stitch. Slip both back to left needle and knit together through the back loops. Repeat. Basically every stitch is worked twice- once alone and once together with the previous stitch.
I don’t know what this bind off is called. I am sure I have seen it somewhere, perhaps in one of my books. It is very stretchy and it works great for garter stitch.
I just posted photos, but the shawl has not been blocked yet. I am going out of town tomorrow morning and want to take it with me, therefore blocking has to wait till I get back.
