This yarn is classified as DK, but I would say it is fingering weight. Nowhere near DK. anyways, this is not a sock yarn; it is too delicate for heavy wear. However, this pair of socks is not intended for heavy use. This is just a luxurious, light, and pretty pair of spring socks to occasionally enjoy paired with a Capri pair of pants or a skirt.
This is my second pair of socks using this pretty pattern. Just like with the first one, I am knitting them top down, not toe-up. I am still using the chart starting form the first row, thus the cascading leaves design ends up pointing down, not up.
I also inserted 2 more purl stitches into the pattern - on the rt and left side of the framing eyelet columns.
I am knitting the lacey pattern only in the front, using 2 x2 rib for the back of the sock.
Starting the socks with a picot:
Cast on 68 using size 2.5 needles.
switch to size 1 and knit 6 rows.
k2, yo across the whole row
knit 6 rows
join the stitches from the cast-on and knit them together with stitches on the needle
knit 1 plain row
start the design in front and 2x2 rib for the rest

Back to this project.
Decided to do a short row heel with mini gusset and reinforcement acrylic thread.
Started the gusset on the 3rd row of pattern (11h repeat). Did 6 stitches gusset.
Short row heel on 34 stitches. Started on the right side. Left 10 stitches unwrapped with 12 wraps on each side. I really dislike triple wraps on heels. Therefore, after completing the first half of the heel I knitted 1 round all around and combined the wraps. I had to drop the reinforcement thread at the beginning of the instep and rejoined it after completing the instep stitches. I then proceeded with the second half of the heel with another set of short rows. The result is ok, but not as perfect as I wish. In the future I will try to knit 2 rows all around before proceeding to the second half of the heel. I will also try a different way of wrapping stitches.
After completing the last short row on the right side I knitted one round all around and then started decreasing the gusset (on every other round) to end at the original number of stitches - 68.
Started toes decreases after a last pattern row - 29 in pattern, 39 in stockinette. Using reinforcement thread.
Decreased every other row till had 18 stitches on top and 20 on the bottom. then decreased every row till had 10/12.
On-needles grafting:
front needle - purl off, knit on
back needle - knit off, purl on

Starting the second sock. Finally! I should change the tile of this project to the Fall time Sock!
I just came across a reference to the German short row heel:
Suzanne Bryan’s YT video German Short Row Heel in Contrast Color - Two Ways.
It looks very good. Have to try it on the next pair of socks, perhaps with a mini gusset.
also try this ingenious method for German short rows:
