This was the pattern grandma made into a blanket for my sister many decades ago. She used her yarn to the full and this was a great scrappy blanket although she used a natural color for the forefront which didn’t make it appear to be a scrappy project and I remember liking that blanket as much as my sister did.

I had to embark on this in fond memories of grandma teaching me to crochet when I was probably 7 or 8 years old. I didn’t understand a thing about need to keep track of stitches in a row … I just knew basic single crochet and double crochet stitches and off I went. Makes this square even more appropriate since it has both!!

All those years ago I made an afghan but without counting it grew in width … and me being me (perfectionist tendencies) I never liked the finished blanket because of the odd shape and decided crochet wasn’t for me. Years after my sister and I took classes for knitting and we both have happily knit for a very long time. A couple years ago, after small dabbles of easy crochet items, I gave crochet another chance and with a little more experience from knitting I have been enjoying crochet a lot. So full circle; duplicating grandma’s blanket, but in small 10x10 bite-sized square. This will be coupled with 23 more squares and make a lovely blanket for those who need a warm blanket to cuddle with.

Grandma would be proud.
