Bought my 4 ply yarn from Norway as I wanted the same brand as the pattern requested. Surprised at its price as it was cheaper than some pure wool 4 ply from Scotland.
Anyways so far just at the ribbing.
Pattern is working nicely and best of all my Rune chart fitted! The Runes are the names of my children, husband and brother. The middle chunk worked with a Gansey style with a feathered design.
Going nicely so far. Love working on it.
Finished the Gansey part and I rewrote another Rune. This time it’s a node to my endurance cycling. ‘’She who wanders, is not always lost’.
Onto the sleeves. Had issues with these. Increasing every 4th row I soon realised that I was nearly at the full sleeve length with 30 stitches still to increase. We all hate frogging. But had no choice to frog all the chevron work back to the first pattern and frogged the sleeve runes. It was a good decision. Instead I increased every other row. And by the time the chevrons were finished I was still short of stitches and obvious this new attempt was going to be very long as well.
(Sweater is now finished and the sleeves fit me perfectly, they turned out 4cm shorter than the pattern requested, but they fit my short arms very nicely).
I missed out the upper sleeve rune work. And finished the increases just part way into the wider sleeve design at the top.
I’ve just complete the sleeve. It’s finished at 44cm. So 4 cms less than recommended, but I have short arms and I’m certain by the time the sleeve is added to the dropped shoulder it will be perfect.
Tomorrow I start sleeve no 2. Increased every other row, not every 4th row. Much better.
Finally finished the knitting. Sorted the steeks cut them.
Sleeves look a wee bit short so hoping blocking will improve them. (Only a cm or so).
Not sure how it’s going to look. I’m pleased with what I’ve done so far. Tried the torso on and it looks ok. A bit bulky, hopefully blocking will help with this too. Trying to figure out how best to attach the sleeves?
On the home straight though!
Afterthought comments. Wish I had watched this YouTube programme before the main body of the pattern. Nordic sweaters use steeks but differently from Fair Isle steeks and mine were Fair Isle ones, ie 9 steeks. Instead I should have marked the center of each front and back, and work with a single steek.

This explains exactly how the steeks SHOULD be done, it will prevent a certain amount of bulky knitting, because the sleeves are knitted cuff up, and finish with a 6 row welt, which is how the sleeves are attached. So mine have a 9 stitch steek folded back with the welt on top of that, creating a bulky join. I couldn’t work out how it was supposed to look on the pattern instructions. But that You Tube video clears the fog completly.
