Ive translated the pattern details into English.

Photograph provided was taken by Linda McCartney not myself, but I cant change the reference to it.

Starting it as my next project, hubby and I are visiting Shetland in August, so thats my goal to finish it.

Here are the colours of Spindrift Im using, ordered from Ewe and Ply UK

Eesit x 7
Madder (Cardinal) x 8, though Im thinking this is a pattern typo as I cant understand why 8 balls are required as the sweater only has a wee bit of madder in it.
Clyde Blue (Mermaid) x 1
Dewdrop x 2
Lemon x 1
Daffodil x 1
Cream x 1
Tan Green (Autumn) x 1
Mustard x 1
Orange from Jamieson and smith x 1

Yarn has arrived, purchases from Ewe and Ply who give an amazing quick postal service to my island home. Perfect!

Hoping to use needles 2.25mm for ribbing and 3mm for body, but will depend on the tension swatch.
Real pattern suggests 2mm for rib and 2.5 for body. So very fine work.

After swatching I’m using 2.75mm for rib and 3.25mm for body.

Trying another swatch, as Ive almost finished a well fitting Fair Isle using 3.25mm needles and I do find the skinny 2.25mm needles rather - well skinny!

Well not a great start!!! Having to undo all my rib! Fancy getting a twist in it! woozy_face hey oh. Starting afresh!

I’m choosing to work 300 sts to cast on. With 2.75mm needles circular.
Ribbing 2k, 2p. For 6.6cm.

Then increasing to 320 sts.
K7, (M1, K15) x 19. Then M1, K8 = 320 sts

The largest 16 and 20 sts borders fit nicely into 320 sts. This is important as they must be complete in any round.

Gawd! Another rip out and start again!

Not the ribbing at least this time, I tried using the selected yarns above from Spindrift, and they dont work at all well together!

The dewdrop pale blue is very pale and totally washed out against the Eesit background, and the Eclipse blue is nearer to navy than expected and together, all I can see is the navy! Not working at all.

So back to the drawing board.

I prefer the jumper weight yarn from Jamiesons and Smith, so Im going back to Ewe and Ply, and ordering yet MORE yarn from them! Theyre gonna love this pattern! I am awaiting a colour chart to arrive from Ewe and Ply much better to see the colours BEFORE I order them, because online the colours looked ok, but they really didnt work nicely along side one another.

The colours from Ewe and Ply arrived. They are all in Jamieson and Smith colours and are as follows:

Sand x 7 balls
Light BLue FC15 x 6 balls
Dark blue FC47 x 3 balls
Rust FC38 x 4 balls
Yellow 90 x 2 balls
Light Yellow 66 x 2 balls
Dark red 9113 x 1 ball.

All ready running out of the dark blue, as there is a lot of it in the jumper perhaps 5 balls of this needed not 3.

Mostly finished the torso of the sweater. Couple of points…. none of the charts line up exactly! So if this is a ‘thing’ for you, the charts will need a re-design to re-aligne them up. Ive checked with the Paul photo by Linda McCartney and these dont exactly line up either, so Im going to try and ignore it!

The sweater so far has been very easy to knit up. I have used 3.25mm needles for mine though as I found the knitted swatch too tight. I have decided to steek my sweater, and I’ll knit the sleeves up from the cuff, and use Kitchener stitch to bind the sleeve to the sweater. Not keen on picking up and knitting the sleeve down to the cuff, as it makes the project cumbersome to work with and I dont like constantly moving all my work around. I hope I wont regret this decision as my sleeve finishing in the past, as been somewhat hit and miss.

Love how its coming along right now.

At the neck line. Knitting this with a round neck not a V. I know different from Paul’s jumper, but I don’t suit a V neck.

Added a steek by putting the front 40 central stitches onto waste yarn. Then adding 9 steek stitches. Nearly at the top now. Some decreasing to do. Once this is done the shoulders will be joined together using the three needle bind off method.

Should complete the torso tonight. Tomorrow I begin the sleeves. Had to complete the torso first because by doing so, I can more accurately measure the pattern bands to get the sleeves the right length. I’ve short arms. So I’m very likely to shorten the sleeves a bit.

Torso is complete. I’ve had to shorten the pattern somewhat or it’s going to be too long.

Decreased a max of 14 stitches at the neck line. Before turning the work inside out and using three needle bind off - grafted the shoulders together ensuring an even number of stitches were on each needle for this..

Then picked up 14 stitches down the left side, picked up the 40 live stitches from the front neck and 14 stitches up the right. And picked up the remaining live stitches across the central back. Making a max of 128 stitches for the neck line. To be ribbed 2x2.

As predicted. I’ve ran out of the dark blue so will need to order another 1 at the very least for the sleeves.

Da da!!! Today I completed my second sleeve. Loads of more ends! That’s OK that’s why TV was invented wasn’t it?

I’ve cut my sleeve steeks and next is to Kitchener stitch the sleeves to the steeked torso. Nearly there now!

Why do so few knitting g patterns (this one included) suggest you pick up stitches from the shoulder steeks and knit down decreasing as you go to the cuffs. I’ve tried so many ways to adding my sleeves without success or ending up with too much bulk because of the steek fold.

Well today I thought - I’m sure this could be kitchenered and yes it so can!

After cutting the steeks I picked up the same number of stitches that the sleeves finished with. (114) and knitted one row in the same colour that I was using the Kitchener stitch in. This was just to get an even row, and all the stitches lying properly.

Then making sure the purl or wrong sides of the torso and the sleeve were facing so effectively I was working on the right side or knit stitched side of the sweater. Lined up my needles and off I went. It worked just so well! Why I’ve never thought of this before is beyond me!! I’ll certainly be doing it again.

Had a wee bit of fun with my final finishing photograph!
