In 2014 I tried to teach Kristen how to knit; she had bought this yarn and was excited to knit a scarf for herself with it. Three years later she handed me a bag and said, “I give up!” Her needles with 2” of scarf, plus the two balls of yarn, were in the bag.

Since she has already bought herself a scarf like the one she wanted to make, I decided to knit her a bandana cowl with her yarn instead. I really think she’s going to like it!

Since I had a little leftover yarn, I decided to make a coordinating ear warmer; I wrote a quick pattern that has the same garter border as the cowl with simple stockinette in the center. I wanted to make sure I didn’t run out before I finished, so I weighed the yarn as I went along to see how much I used working each section (cast-on and border, center stockinette, top border and bind-off).

The headband took about 2 hours start to finish, including taking a break for lunch.

CO 66 (twisted German)

weight of yarn after part 1: 32g … part 1 used ~13g

Section 2:
stockinette for 10 rounds (12g left)

Section 3:
purl 1 round
knit 1 round
purl 1 round
knit 1 round
bind off in purl w Jeny’s super stretchy bind off (2g left)
