Notes

The author unnecessarily complicates the pattern by using a weird row numbering system. A simple “garter section” and “stripe section” would bet better.

Beaded picot Russian bind off:

CO 2 using cable cast on, place bead on first st (this is the second co st), ((k2togtbl, slip st onto L needle)) x 3
Repeat

Unlike most (ok, all) of my previous projects, for some reason I decided to wing it with the stripe pattern - symmetry be damned!! I did NOT count the rows or stitches before starting the first stripe section, I did NOT count how many stripes I made - I didn’t even weigh the yarn so I couldn’t go by weight! That made deciding when to start the second stripe section super stressful for me (because thanks to my OCD I’m usually very meticulous about symmetry), but then I decided that if I hated how it looked, I could always frog it and start over. I made roughly the same number of stripes in the second section as in the first (measured using the very scientific method of EYEBALLING IT). When it came time(ish) for the third stripe section I went all in on the randomness and started when I felt like it. Good thing I didn’t wait longer to start the stripes, though, because by the time I ran out of the purple yarn I only had enough Mermaid Lagoon to do four rows of garter before needing to bind off.

Finished the bindoff 10/22/17. (I would have been finished a week earlier except it was in the trunk of my scooter when I got hit and the scooter was totaled; it sat in the tow lot for a week before I was able to get there and empty it out.) Now I just need to lightly block and weave in ends so I can gift it.

10/30/17 Between Amy and me, we had quite a queue of projects waiting to be blocked! It was finally my turn tonight. Blocked size: 85” along wide end x 52” along picot bindoff edge.

11/3/17 I gave the shawl to Dana after the workout and I thought she was going to cry. SHE LOVES IT!!
