Notes

Yarn Usage. I got through 11 repetitions of Chart 4 with the first skein.

I knit eight (8) more repetitions of Chart 4 with the second skein, plus a few more rows.

I was 17 stitches from the end of the 26th repetition of Chart 4 when I had to join the fourth skein of yarn.

Additional Repetitions. I did two additional pattern repetitions before starting Chart 5. The shawl probably didn’t need to be that big, but it should be all the warmer.

Methodology. I worked from the very clear written instructions. My only hiccup was partway through my third skein when I omitted the last yarn over in the second lattice section on a row 5. I caught it on row 6, so had to tink back to that spot and insert the yarn over.

It would probably help to add a marker at the beginning and end of each of the lattice sections, to make it easier to remember to count six stitches in these sections.

I counted the stitches from the marker to the end of the row either during or after every row 7, and added 33 to be sure I had the number of stitches specified for that repetition. There are 33 stitches in the panel section once you get to Chart 4.

Changing Skeins. I was lucky that two of my skein changes happened in the cable section. The third was in the middle of the garter section, where it was harder to weave in the ends without disturbing the even appearance of the right side. The next time, I will be sure to make all the skein changes in the cable section, even if it means ending a skein before it’s completely finished.
