I cast on 64 stitches with the alternating cable cast-on, and knit the 1 x 1 ribbing for 2 inches.

I think I should be able to knit the full pattern and come out with a hat that is close to 9” in length.

Yarn Usage. This version took slightly more than one skein. I was able to knit through row 4 of the crown decreases with the full skein I started wirh. Fortunately, I had yarn left over from Drew’s hat.
