Notes

Modifications. I’m not generally a fan of yarn-overs along the center spine of a shawl or cowl, but now wish I had followed the designer’s instructions, echoing the shawl’s lacy motif.

Instead I replaced the yarn-overs with M1L and M1R increases. I did the same for the edge increases. I also made a three-stitch edge, to match the garter tab.

Needle Size. I used a size 7 lace needle rather than my blunt-pointed size 8’s. I decided to move to the lace section when indicated, to be sure I had enough yarn. I couldn’t be sure adding even six more rows wouldn’t get me into trouble. That’s the least number of rows it would have taken to increase the stitch count to the next multiple of 21.

Yarn Usage. I had 80 grams left at the end of the body section. The circumference at the neck edge before blocking appears to be 23 inches.

I had 57 grams left after the first lace section, so the lace section took approximately 23-24 grams. I had 32 grams left after the second repeat, and 27 grams left after binding off.

While I had enough yarn to do another lace repeat, I like the proportions of the design as written.
