Notes

Inspired by the colourways.

Much re-designing and “re-techniquing”. I couldn’t get the motif exactly like I wanted, so I knitted one yoke and drew on it with marker. Ouch. Then re-charted.

I also wasn’t happy with any way of dealing with long floats, stumbled into ladderback jacquard, and I love it. Much like double-knitting.

I’m now knitting the yoke for the third time, but I think I may have to frog again and go down a needle size because the jacquard turns out looser.

Love the Sunkissed yarn. Most colourways are clown barf, but this charcoal is just great.

Indeed had to knit the yoke a fourth time.

Well I finally finished this… haven’t been taking any notes here, but I actually tried to write the pattern for this. I have the yoke charted, and gave up after finishing the colourwork.

Anyway the yoke is the most important part and this sweater can only be considered a prototype.

I have another unfinished pattern even that I haven’t gotten to finish yet (salopette), I should really finish that one before I even attempt this one, right? but I am so tired of writing patterns, I don’t find the motivation with a little child, an entire house to (self)half-rebuild and a full time job. And yet something else ;)

So anyhow, I had this semi-parked since I wanted to write the pattern (I write them as I go), but time was passing and the sweater would have become unwearable by Erik soon (I make very little money from my patterns so my main motivation always is to have a use-able item at the end of it), so I picked it up and just sped up through the rest to finish it.

There are many mistakes, I’ll try to make a list (writing this after the fact…)

  • The yoke needed to have increased earlier, faster, and more. I increased a lot after the colourwork. The neck has a funnel shape which is cute but baby necks are rather short.
  • The funnel doesn’t combine very well with the garter bands since they fold over (particularly at the back), this could be transformed into a feature (put buttons inside, flare more at to -becomes bottom- edge)
  • The loop increases are holey, but may be because I forgot to switch needles after the colourwork (and my erratic tension)
  • The centre front increase went too far, which made the front hem lower a lot
  • To correct that I made short rows at the lower back, but they are holey because I haven’t looked up how to make them better, this actually looks cute (sides are a bit higher) but the front is still too low
  • Also because of center front excessive increases the sweater flares perhaps a little too much, in a frocklike fashion. I do like it though, but maybe a little less.
  • And also because of that there’s a bit of a weird shape, which could have been corrected by blocking on wool, but this is cotton. Anyway stopping those increases after the yoke or shortly afterwads would solve nearly all of these problems.
  • Sweater would look much better for various reasons in a woolen yarn, but woolen sweaters seem too warm for anyone in my family in seemingly any occasion…
  • The undersleeve probably needs extra stitches to form an underarm seam.
  • I am still not happy with the yoke design. The leaves need to be closer and larger. The two center back leaves are on the other hand too close (should be at least three sts).
