Gauge works up bigger than pattern on purpose - I’m a tall plus size lady (6’1” and 275lbs), pretty sure a teen/adult sized blanket will be too small for me.
Rather than messing with the pattern I decided to size up my needles/yarn. 11.5 stitches per 4” is my gauge, pattern asks for 14 stitches per 4”.
Knit a total of 33 individual bands before doing the ribbing to accommodate my size (which is less than the pattern recommends, but since the yarn works up much bigger and it ends up reaching my chest, it works out!).
For flippers, CO 2 additional sts (45 total) for a slipped edge stitch on both sides. Used a crochet cast on (8mm hook) to match the sides. I knit the flippers in one piece instead of two, but finishing the first flipper as instructed, but instead of casting off I knit 2 more rows, then reversed the instructions: s1 purl wise, k3 sts, m1r, knit to end. Next row, s1 purl wise, knit to end. Repeated this until I had 45 sts back on the needles, then knit 4 plaint rows. Bound off using the same crochet hook.
For future reference, the ‘knit right loop’ stitch might be a better increase to visually match the k2tog tbl for this.
