07-24-2019

This is going to be plenty big enough for me. So far it is measuring 10” high X 13 1/2” wide. I will line it with fabric and add a zipper to the top (I think!)

Instead of straps I think I will use wooden handles and create a flap to go through each handle.

Can’t wait to finish and start using it.

07-27-2019 Handle/Flaps

I found the perfect pair of wooden handles at my local craft store for $9.99 and with a 40% off coupon it really makes them worth it. This is the look I was going for.

The top edge of my bag measures 13” across. The handles are 11 3/4” across with a 10” opening for the flap. I will make my flap to measure 1 1/2” from each side edge and then do the same for the opposite side. I will add button holes to attach the flaps to the bag body, but haven’t determined what buttons I will use just yet. I hope I have enough of the dove color and don’t have to make a second trip to the store!

I measured 1 1/2” from each side and placed my stitch markers. I single crochet back and forth with a total of 38 sc in each row for 11 rows. Row 12 will be for the button holes. I will make them this way:
3 sc, ch 2, skip 2
5 sc, ch 2, skip 2
6 sc, ch 2, skip 2
6 sc, ch 2, skip 2
5 sc, ch 2, skip 2
3 sc

Row 13: sc in each st and ch space across to end.
Row 14 & 15: sc in each st across.
Row 15 add a ch of 26 to center for tie.

08-01-2019 Zippered Pocket and Lining

I used this tutorial to learn how to add a zippered pocket to my lining. Perfect!

https://youtu.be/yKAy8bVpAbs

Finished bag dimensions for adding lining:

Length from front top edge to back top edge = 23”
Width = 13 3/4”

Lining length: add 2” = 25”
Lining width: add 1 “ = 14 3/4”
Width of base = 2”

All I need to do now is purchase 10 matching buttons and get them sewn into my bag, then this will be ready to use. Can’t wait!
