Notes

07-25-2019 Base

Starting chain of 40 (plus 1)
Working back and forth in rows of sc for 8 rows.
Working in the round: At the end of the 8th row, turn to work alongside short edge, placing 1 sc in end of each row (8sc); turn to work 40 sc along bottom row, 8 sc alongside opposite short side edge, turn to work 40 sc along top row. Continue to work in the round without joining for 5 more rounds. 96 sts total/round.

Base dimensions: 9 1/2” X 1 1/2” before working in the round.

08-06-2019

I have completed 26 rounds of the mosaic section and have fastened off both colors B and C. My top band will be 6 rounds in sc and now I need to decide if I will add wooden handles or a long shoulder strap with a zippered top…..decisions, decisions.

Bag Dimensions and Lining:

My bag (without the handle flaps) measures 9 1/2” tall X 12 1/2” wide.

My fabric piece for lining will be 21” X 14”, which should work perfectly once inserted and sewn in place.

The depth for the base of the bag is 2” and I will account for this when folding my triangles up for the base of the lining insert.

I will be adding handle flaps and buttons to secure the wooden handles in place.

As I did with another mosaic bucket bag I recently completed, I used this YouTube video to help me to add a zippered pocket. Every time I do this they just keep getting better. ZIPPERED POCKET

Special Note: The buttons that I plan to use to attach the outer flap to should be sewn to the bag lining BEFORE the lining is attached to the crocheted bag.

08-08-2019 Wooden Handle & Flaps

The outside base of my wooden handle is 9 3/4”. The opening within that base measures 8 1/4”. That leaves me with a total of 4 1/4” (or 2 1/8” from each side - centered) to begin my flap. I will cut the yarn after the 5th sc round in the top band and rejoin 2 1/8” from the right hand side of my fabric and work in sc stitches along the top edge until I have 2 1/8” remaining on the top left hand side. I will turn and work several rows back and forth until I have reached the proper length for attaching the flap to buttons I plan to sew along the top edge of my fabric lining.

REPEAT for opposite side handle flap.

Handle Flap

2 1/8” from each side. 34 sc/row for 9 rows.

Row 10 button holes:
Sc 3
ch 2, sk 2, sc 4
ch 2, sk 2, sc 5
ch 2, sk 2, sc 5
ch 2, sk 2, sc 4
ch 2, sk 2, sc 3

Row 11: sc in each sc and ch sp across to the end.

Row 12: sl st across to the end.
