The finished poncho is approximately 4” longer in the front center than in the back center. It was purposely designed this way, but if you prefer to have the back side closer in length to the front, you could complete the back sides using double crochet instead of half double crochet until you reach the desired length.

Additionally, some people have experienced an awkward curve in their ponchos. This can be alleviated by skipping the very first hdc st immediately following the corner increase on both the front and back of the poncho (see bottom photo).
