Notes

I really wanted to make a shawl for one of my dearest friends using yarn that I dyed. My friend has the prettiest crystal blue eyes and I thought the yellow in this primarily blue and green colorway would accentuate that.

I originally had cast on for a Sewanee shawl, but I think a tonal colorway is better suited to that pattern than this variegated.

I initially shied away from using this yarn for a lace pattern because I was afraid the stitch pattern would get lost, but I like the way the lace breaks up the color. Also, the open, airy quality of the fabric is more suited to cool Southern California summer evenings.

The photos show both the Sewanee and Leven projects on the needles.

I added 6 stitches to the CO to create a garter stitch selvedge as follows:

RS (odd #) rows: k3, yo, work pattern to last 3 st, yo, k3
WS (even #) rows: k 2, k2tog, work pattern to last 4 st, ssk, k2

This will give me a couple of extra little points at the bottom when I block it, but I think it’ll look nice. I have 460 yds. to work with, so I think I’ll keep adding repeats until I run out of yarn.

Thanks to my mom for modeling the finished shawl!
